As regards the Deputy Registrars there was considerable difficulty in apportioning their salaries, inasmuch as in 1875 there was only one Registrar. The pay of the Deputy was then estimated at £450, $2,160, and on this an increase of 35 per cent was proposed, bringing their salaries up to #2916, but this was declined. The Acting Registrar stated that the Deputy Registrars desired their case to be brought to Your Lordship's notice, but no memorials from the officers themselves have been addressed to me for transmission
